DAR ES SALAAM Tanzania, Capital Markets in Africa — Tanzania Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange equity market bearish sentiment persisted at the end of Friday trading session. The equity market capitalization sagged by TZS 220 billion (about US$102 million) to end at TZS 21,788 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,008 billion recorded at previous trading session.
The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) sagged by 25.30 points or 1.01 percent to end at 2,487.57 points. Tanzanian domestic Share Index plunged by 0.86 points or 0.02 percent to close at 4,623.23 points.
The Banks, Finance & Investment sector remained flat to end at 3,113.18 points. Industrial & Allied sector index fell by 0.03 percent or 1.60 points to close at 6,167.73 points and Commercial services sector index remained constant to close at 3,974.18.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 227.90 million from 450,041 shares traded in 50 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 714.78 million from 1,899,157 shares traded in 57 deals. CRDB had 439,488 shares traded in 17 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 4,425 shares in 6 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 2,750 shares in 14 deals. Tanzania Portland Cement Company traded 718 shares in 6 deals and MAENDELEO Bank Plc had 1,950 in 3 deals and Swissport Tanzania had 410 shares in 3 deals.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended negative today, with three gainers and four laggards. Kenya Airways added 9.09 percent to settle at TZS 120.00, Nation Media Group surged by 1.01 percent to close at TZS 2,900 and Jubilee Holdings Limited ended at TZS 10,400.00 by adding 0.48 percent. On the losers’ table were Kenya Commercial Bank Limited traded at TZS 900.00 after sagged by 5.26 percent, Acacia Mining Limited crashed by 2.28 percent to conclude at TZS 8,130, East Africa Breweries Limited slipped by 0.35 percent with closing price of TZS 5,670.00 and Tanzania Portland Cement Company slumped by 0.29 percent to end at TZS 3,380.00.
